Individual Therapy
I believe that the work of therapy is the work of waking up and becoming more alive, more fully who you are. This is an audacious, exciting, and sometimes scary process. As you are exploring the idea of therapy, you are already at one doorway of many.
We live much of our lives in "default mode." You may not even be aware of this mode - it is simply like the air you breathe. It is a way of being asleep while also awake.
Default mode helps us get things done - it is all the mental short cuts and all the ways we filter information to get to what is important. It is made up of your beliefs, the ways you move, speak, and think when you are on automatic pilot. It is the ways you check out when something is painful, boring, or unfamiliar and scary.
Default mode is limiting. These habits and holding patterns can cause a lot of pain, particularly when they were formed by traumatizing or challenging experiences. This shows up as anxiety, depression, eating disorders, difficulty in relationships, substance abuse, and more.
My approach is based in mindfulness and body-awareness and focuses on helping people recognize their "default mode" of operating in the world. I work with individual clients to shine a light on all those hidden beliefs and patterns so they can have access to greater freedom and choice in their lives. I help clients develop greater self-awareness, self-compassion, coping skills, and ultimately, greater access to feelings of aliveness, energy, and love.
I also am a teacher, and believe that understanding how phenomena like the brain, nervous system, and relationship styles form can be very helpful in the process of healing. Therapy should provide you with a better understanding of the particular experience of being you as an individual, as well as a deeper understanding of what it means to be a human being on this planet.
I work with wide variety of issues, including:
If you are familiar with various therapeutic orientations, you may be interested to know that I draw strongly from Hakomi and parts work.
